Missions Teams

January 14, 2009 – 3:18 pm

africablog.jpgI’m working on an article now for the Web site about a missions team that went overseas last fall. As I listened to these team members discuss their experiences, both from the pulpit, and in conversation, I could see this trip had changed their lives. They were glad they had gone and couldn’t wait to talk about it. Some are already planning to return on more missions trips.

Going overseas gave them a firsthand view of the hardships — both physical and spiritual — that many people in the world face each day. “It was like we were going back 50 years,” one of the team members commented.

They saw how their humanitarian and spiritual contribution made a real difference in the lives of the people to whom they ministered. “I’ve never received so many hugs and ‘thank you’s’ in my entire life,” one young woman remembers after distributing food to flood victims.

This missions trip also gave them a sense of satisfaction of being in the Lord’s will. One young man said: “Knowing I did what I was called to do is the greatest feeling I have ever experienced.” He added: “It got me outside of American Christianity and refined my character quite a bit.”

The Assemblies of God World Missions provides many opportunities for various types of overseas missions trips throughout the year. Some local churches also take missions trips on a regular basis.

Let me encourage you to consider taking an overseas missions trip. From personal experience, and from talking to many others, it’s an adventure you will always cherish. Going on a missions trip will change your life, and that of others.
